Does anyone know if the Nature Conservancy allows Letterboxes?

Found this on the regulation page for one of our local NC sites....

648.4 Natural Resource Management.

(a) It is unlawful for any person to:

(1) knowingly introduce, collect, deface, remove, destroy or otherwise
injure in any manner whatsoever any plant, animal or other living or
non-living feature except as otherwise herein authorized by the
Commission or Department;

It's apparently illegal to introduce a non-living feature and LBing is
not included in the authorized list. However, the permit section allows
that people can apply for permits for otherwise prohibited activities.
I suppose that LBing could well be consistent with the groups plans and
objectives, depending on the specific site......

648.3 Permits.

(a) Permits to allow otherwise prohibited activities may be issued to
any person by the Commission. Activities for which a permit is sought
must be consistent with the goals and objectives of the Albany Pine
Bush Preserve Management Plan (see Section 648.10).

That would entirely depend on if they actually knew there was a
letterbox on their property....

I found nothing to report.

The safest course in ALL cases is to contact the land owner or
manager, and get their (or the organization's) permission before
planting any boxes. Not doing so could risk giving our hobby a bad
reputation.

SPeaking of bad reputations.... a certain land trust in New London
County beleives that letterboxers are ripping down stone walls and
perhaps even looting the stones in those walls. So be nice to the
land trust people! ( Example of being nice: West Farms Land Trust
is EXTREMELY letterbox friendly!)
